The team captained by Ralph Katz
broke open a tight match in the third quarter and played
nearly flawless bridge the rest of the way to win the
Vanderbilt Knockout Teams 124-86 over the tough squad led by
John Diamond.
Katz played with George Jacobs, Robert Levin, Steve
Weinstein and Egyptian stars Walid Elahmady and Tarek Sadek.
Diamond, fielding one of the youngest teams ever in the
Vanderbilt final, played with Brian Platnick, Fred Gitelman
(at 44 the oldest member of the squad), Brad Moss, Geoff
Hampson and Eric Greco.
The Diamond team proved their mettle on Friday by pounding
the No. 1 seed, Nick Nickell, to get to the final. |
